If he feel like he needs the space to grow you should respect him enough to give him that time to be the better version of himself to give to you. In my opinion he gave you that respect by telling you so that way you don't get the half ass version of him. So to speed it up seems selfish and might backfire, bc spirit will definitely let you know if it's not the right time.
