If you want to participate in any of the Vodou Rite’s , do you have to start off with LaLa’s Papa Legba 1st?

I asked the same question and Lala said some don’t need to. But you need to cleanse and have crossroads opened first.

It's ideal, but it's not the only way. You can: do your own conjuring with Papa or, do your own Crossroads or, do the Papa rite. In Damballah rite Ms Lala explained you may or may not need Papa Legba rite done first. Not necessary if you already did your own blockages removed.

I’ve asked around and get mixed answers, so not sure if it has to be done through papa legba first or not.

Yes papa is the gate keeper and opens all doors/grants persmission. I personally would before going onto another lwa.
