I have been burning the candle I am almost to the end of it I just have a couple questions is it normal for the flame to get really big? And what does it mean if the jar breaks?

It’s suggested to place candles in a bowl of water or sand to keep jar from bursted or contain if it does due to jar being hot. Flames are known to get big and small.
