You can light it wherever you want to light it

Clean the space with Florida water and make sure nothing is near by the candle that will cause a fire and u should be good just do all the other steps

I light my charcoal under my kitchen vent on high- it puts off a lot of smoke at first but turns grey and the smoke stops. That's when it's ready for the frankencense. The frankencense also smokes but not as much as that initial charcoal burn, so I just use one small piece at a time to keep the smoke to a minimum.
