It's the herbs and it's common but you don't let it keep burning like that.. It'll burn thru the entire candle too fast and also too hot. Snuff it, move the herbs away from the wick, relight, chant etc.
Sometimes the herbs in the candle will cause the candle to catch fire, I have found it is best if you try and keep the the herbs away from the flame buy pushing them back away from the wick
