I remember Lala talking about animal sacrifice to certain spirits for protection. can anyone give me some more insight on this? which spirit and how would it be done? can this be done to break a very very strong hex placed on a family?

This is a closed practice and you cannot do yourself. You need a either a babalawo (if it Santeria), tata on paleria or vodoo is called differently. The point is this is a serious thing and requires secret process to do that. You need to hire one of this type of people if really needed in order to get the ritual done on your behave .
