Can anyone tell me how to use the incense holder? Should I leave the felt mat inside ? Also should it lay flat cause I thought they are supposed to have a hole to float so they won't snuff

I haven’t had an issue with it burning and leaving marks. And when it’s done, I just shake out the leftover and is fine. Can’t even tell the incense was burning in it.
