I’m an aleyo (a non-initiated practitioner of Santería; I’m still going through the divination process to see which path is for me) so I’m setting up a multi-level aleyo altar to the Orishas. I want to make some space for Legba/Eleggua but I’m confused as to which statue to buy. I have Yemaya and Ogun from the company that makes the bronze statues but they are quite dark due to the material so it’s hard to see them sometimes. Amazon has another statue of Eleggua (I’m using his name interchangeably) but it reminds me of one of those racist statues from the early 20th century in the US. As a white man, I feel weird buying it and keeping him in my home but at the same time I feel more of a connection to the colorful statue. I think because of the color he feels more alive to me. What do you all think?

yea make sure these things r not done bcuz thats how u want them THE LWAS and ORISHAs have wants and WE RESPECT all ov them bcuz they actually are the ones wit the SAY SO bt hope u find wat u need and are looking for
The bronze statue speaks more to me. True to what his features would’ve looked like and standing in his power. I grew up in a family that practiced and still practices heavy Santeria so I am used to seeing a lot of statues like the first one. But that bronze statue is so beautiful!!
My opinion on Papa legba is that he's a voodoo God. He's not eshu, he's not ellegua, he's papa legba. Those are different entities. That's like a griot in an African village. They all tell stories and do the same thing but which TRIBE are you going to hear about. That's like working a job to me and they don't even call you by your name. They call you by your position and your replaceable and also interchangeable so forget your name, right it can be anything? To me that's kind of rude to a lwa God. His name is Papa Legba not anything else, if lala wanted to come out with an ellegua or eshu candle she would have. Please be respectful, do more research before building an altar to him
my opinion Papa Legba In Yoruba tradition is different but Only u will kno if PAPA LEGBA chooses to work with U its Truly HIS choice.. Alot ov the bronze Statue are African features mostly there are also The Santeria statues and that Tradition as well Im not sure about Mixing traditions but Papa Legba is someone else In ur Santeria Tradition definitely different statue..good luck tho
@Sonia Suell HERE is some XTRA info...thanks Dominik
This is one option for an altar keeping Legba closer to the ground.
When doing Papa Legba you have to do his altar separate from any other altar , the altar you do for him is only suppose to have what’s for him and no one else .
I also want to add that I will be buying the Legba candle and keeping the jar since it has his vévé on it.
