I find it helpful to have a space dedicated to meditation which just so happens to be where my ancestral altar is. Someplace quiet without distractions because your mind will try to wander on it’s own. I’ve found it helpful to have those sound proof gun range headphones as well. Then you have to figure out what works best for you candlelight meditation, closed eyes sitting quietly, or guided meditation. I’d experiment with them all if I were you and see what works best for you. I started just like with exercise I set aside a specific time a day and started with a small feasible time frame maybe 10 minutes or so then increased the time daily by a couple minutes. Focus on your breathing. Your mind will wander initially acknowledge the thought then just let it go. Being consistent you’ll get better at it and just like some people with exercise eventually you get addicted to it you crave that quiet solace with yourself.
